Nevada was explored by the fur traders, but the first real settlement came in 1849 by Mormons. Its name came in 1861 and was derived from Spanish language meaning ‘Snow-capped’.
First of all its territory was carved out as part of Utah territory and on 31 October 1864 it got its own territory. On this day state observes it as a holiday. Nevada became famous by discovery of Comstock Lode in 1859 and its mines continued producing Gold, Silver, Copper and many more minerals. Oil was discovered in 1954. Gold still is dug out and is by far exceeding other minerals in production.
Rhyolite Historic Site is a picturesque ghost town of the west. The remains of old railroad depot, Bottle House and concrete ruins are still there. Gold Well open air museum displays all artifacts. Nevada’s Casino Resorts and the name of Nevada go hand-in-hand with each other. Any kind of curiosity that you have can be fixed by Nevada’s casinos and amusement parks that it offers to its guests.
Built in 1923, Caliente Railroad Depot is a mission-style railroad depot. A Boxcar Museum has been added to it recently, which is very next to railroad depot. You need at least two hours to explore Rainbow Canyon on a self-guided tour (maps are available). It features geological beauty, rock art and natural resources.
Situated on the visually pleasing ghost town of Belmont, Belmont Courthouse State Historic Site is between 376 and Monitor Valley Road. It was built in 1876; it served as the county seat of a group of pheasants. All that glitters is not Gold, but if you come to Goldfield which is in a Gold mining town found in 1902, almost every thing that glitters here is Gold.
Sights here include Santa Fe Saloon built in 1905, Esmeralda County Courthouse and the magnificent Goldfield Hotel. Don’t be scared of visiting Death Valley National Park as all it has is a vast desert. The scenic desert offers some of the best desert scenery, a complex geology and whole area is totally undisturbed, depicting desert wilderness and sites of cultural and historical interests.
Renowned Lehman Caves got incorporated into the newly established Great Basin National Park on 27 October, 1986. From the fertile land of sagebrush to a 13063 ft summit of Wheeler Peak, it has everything that you can think of in a forest resort.
It has aplenty full of wildlife, alpine plants, streams, lakes and primitive bristlecone pines and many limestone caverns. On the west you have a telescope peak (11049 ft) and on the east 5475 ft Dante’s View. The lowest point of the western USA, Badwater (282 ft) can also be located here.
